why the euro needs supporting from outside rather than wrecking

The Euro is not a wonderful currency for an area so large and economically divergent, in that teh critics are largely right. John Major tried prior to Maastrcht to persuade for a Hard euro for the eocnomically competitive countries and one for the rest to reduce currency speculation between national currencies. However that idea was rejected democratically at the then sovereign council of Ministers.

As such the EU faces a dilemma, does it try to turn teh clock back and create such a soft currecny for Spain Portugal, Italy or Greece or does it look forward and arrange debt restructuring for these soveriegn states and recapitalisation of the banks in other EU countries affected, as occurred in teh UK while the Uk diverts its own Quantitative easing towards infrastructure projects so as to maintain the EEA and EUs competitiveness. The latter in my mind is teh best solution as to break up teh Euro could create economic uncertainty. However the advice of teh OECD in support of comments by teh IMF is needed as Greece has had infrastrcuture investment in the 1990s and Italy has recently done the same.

That is why the UK govt works through the IMF. It is also why economic cooperation between Britiain and both parts of the Island of Ireland is so important as well from hard headed as well as personal sentitmental reasons.
