Last night on LBC Talk radio there was a discussion based on the RSA talk inentitled should we build on Sipson and get a third runway.

One select ctte leader / chair (former envidronment minister Tim Yeo)
said that 2030 would produce be the minimum completion date for Boris Island and that with planning laws ammended a third runway would happen sooner. Daniel Moynihan (London Mayors transport adviser) says that therefore Boris Island needs building sooner. Danny Alexander (chief Secreatry to the treasury) has said that the £50bn government infrastructure loan scheme (at commerical rates for the private sector), could if mandated by Parliament be used for a third runway at Heathrow.

Other options ot this are runway two at Gatwick or Stanstead withe Airtrack into Heathrow as well as the Western Connection onto GWestern Line (demolihing the BMI headquarters by Heathrow junction on that rail way line)

As such in the following discussion on the radion, one caller said that why don't they use RAF Northolt for short haul flights, as theres a Central Line station and good road network nearby.

This option was looked into by the Conservative Government of Sir John Major in the 1990s. They found that realigning the runway then would prove too complex as it would mean the relocation of a Roman Catholic spilt site secondary school, the perpetuation of large detached proerty neagtaive equity nearby that (The Ickenham Residents Association, not to be confused with teh Irish same initialed now disbanded). There was at teh time a lack of a South Rusilip and Ealing North wide devoleopment startegy.

However since then the following theings have changed that make the Runway idea at RAF Northolt even less likely

Council and shared ownership hosuing next to RAF Northolt repalcing sub standard arned services housing in a close next to Ruislip Gardens LU / TFL station.

A full scale redevelopment of teh airbase to include a MOD Post office for teh entire military as part of base rationalising in North London (from RAF Mill HIll), this also includes tarinign facilities used by some olympic teams this olympics

Increased commuter traffic on the A40 and surrounding roads

A proposal to extend teh Central Line to Uxbridge

A new High School on teh other side of the LU / Chiltern Lines that makes diverting teh Piccadilly line after Rayeners lane under teh Yeading Brook (my home parks as a kid) more difficult as it awould hamper a circket pitch in Rayners Lane and potentially the flood table around Heathrow Airport on its North West near the parish of St Dunstans and Holy Angels, Cranford, hence my heckling a few years back, stick it in the estuary. It could still be done with a two entrance station like Crossrail ones one at Ruislip gardens and one on the airbase with teh Central Line running into Uxbridge, however then RAF Northolt would have to pay for teh Central Line to also be aligned into tunnel like High Speed Two after Northolt LU station and under ithe rpesent Depot site in Ruislip Garndens to run to a new Uxbridge Central Line station and onto Heathrow and its HS2 terminal.

Reason for this is that short haul flights would fly over the embankment of teh trains and as such the Chiltern Lines could also use the present central Line elvated for bypassing exparess trains on the Northbound journey to Oxford and Birmingham.

However it would for the first time since the second world war create a militarisation of civilian aircarft tarining and provision. In this climate could international politics take the notion of this being an excuse for a terrorist attrocity being planned again like eleven years ago.

As such my own gut instinct based on no more than growing up in the area is build Boris Island, move teh Raf provision to Heathrow to defend the Capital and Windsor and build the homes fit for heroes and a new Parish church in memory of Afghanistand and Iraq on the Airbase for the families of all Nato personnell.

The Uk state could if it presented its methodolgies and capabilities to parliament defnce and planning cttes in teh Lords via the intelliegnce ctte in the House of Lords and joint session with the Commons deliver this outcome quicker than 2030 and paralell to High Speed Two.

No more diplomatic jets crashing risk into St Marys South Ruislip either so I like this plan from vicerally personal reasons too as section 106 goes towards a scout hut and land transfer for the park behind the church to be shred with teh Boys Brigade as well given demgraphics of the parish.
